Our firm was hired by the City of Alpharetta to provide the schematic concept design for a parking deck situated downtown in an awkward shaped footprint and adjacent to a cemetery.  We incorporated the architectural guidelines as defined by the City as “Vernacular Mill Industrial”.  The finished project (design-build by others) resembles an aged brick mill structure, and most locals agree it blends perfectly into the fabric of downtown … without looking like a typical “parking deck”.  In fact, we went a step further… the fact the structure holds automobiles is concealed from street view by retail storefronts (shallow but functional depth) which consume the streetscape and front façade, while auto entries are limited to the side and rear.
